Breast Reduction Recovery Time

  • This surgery takes time to recover. The duration of surgery is usually 3-5 hours. Most patients return home the same day as the surgery.

The Days After Surgery

  • For a few days of post-surgery, a patient may experience some pain and discomfort. Your breasts may bruise and swell up. It is because of the stretching of breast muscles and tissues.
  • Most pain occurs during the first few days post-procedure. You can take medications for pain relief after a doctor’s prescription., your doctor can prescribe pain relief medicine to ease the pain. Also, drainage tubes may be placed on your breasts to help reduce swelling and boost the recovery process—the removal of tubes occurs a few days after surgery.
  • Doctors advise special surgical bras to support the tissue after surgery. Finally, avoid any unnecessarily vigorous activity during this period.

The Weeks After Surgery

  • Pain and swelling significantly minimize in this time. However, some pain and discomfort is still there. After a couple of weeks, the doctor removes the stitches. As the gauze is no longer there, the patient must continue to wear surgical bras. During this period, most women have recovered sufficiently to return to work. But recovery time may vary depending on the personal life and professional environment. If the pain is severe a week after surgery, we advise you to seek medical attention.

The Month After Surgery

  • After 30 days of surgery, most women experience an almost complete recovery. To prevent any possible infection, continue to be careful about the breast. After one to two months of surgery, the breast will be regular and soft, but swelling may continue for up to one year.
